Adoptive Parent Regulations
Age & Marital Status
Prospective adoptive parents must be between the ages of 18 and 50 years old.
Married a minimum of 3 years.
Household
There are no noted restrictions on the number of children residing in the home. However, prospective adoptive parents must be flexible with either gender, male or female, for referral.
Children in the home, age 10 and over, must sign a written consent for the prospective adoption.
Preference is given to adoptive couples with Lithuanian heritage.
Processing Time & Travel
Application to Placement: Anywhere from 12 months – 3 years, depending on the age and number of children being adopted.
Both prospective adoptive parents are required for traveling abroad to pick up the child. They both must attend the court hearing. The family may stay during the 40 day waiting period or return later for a 2nd visit.
