Central Adoption Authority: Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MOWA)

Family Requirements

  • Age: Prospective adoptive parents must be 25-55 years of age. Ages 25-49 can adopt age 3 and under; age 50-55 can adopt 4 years or older.
  • Marriage:  If single, the prospective adoptive parent must be at least 25 years of age. Prospective adoptive parents must be married at least 5 years.
  • Household: Can have only 2 or fewer divorces per person. No more than 7 biological children living in the home.

Country Information 

  • Travel: Be prepared for 2 trips; 7-10 days each
  • Residency Requirements: There are no residency requirements for prospective adoptive parents.
  • Wait Time: The adoption process takes up to 2 years; each case can vary.

Children Available

  • Age of Children: Ages 2 months – 15 years of age.
  • Special Requests: Parents requesting children under 1 year must be open to a child of either gender.
